A Practical Remodeling Checklist
This checklist companion to the remodeling process guide is meant for homeowners in Placer, Sacramento, and El Dorado Counties who are getting ready for a bathroom remodel with Western Renovations. Use it to prepare for each stage: design consultation, permitting, construction, and final walkthrough.
Before Your Design Consultation
- Decide which type of project you're considering: a master bathroom remodel, a guest bathroom update, a tub-to-shower conversion, or a senior/ADA-accessible bathroom.
- Note any accessibility needs up front, since ADA-accessible and senior-accessible bathrooms are a specific service category, not an add-on to discuss later.
- If the bathroom work is part of a larger project, mention it: Western Renovations also handles kitchen remodeling, whole-house remodeling, and whole-house ADA remodeling.
- Write down your questions so the design consultation covers everything you want addressed.
During the Permitting Stage
- Confirm your contractor is licensed, bonded, and insured in California; Western Renovations holds CSLB #1123352.
- Understand that permitting is handled as part of the same managed process that carries through to construction and final walkthrough, rather than as a separate, disconnected step.
During Construction
- Plan for how you and your household will use the home while the bathroom (or kitchen, or whole-house project) is under construction.
- Keep the lines of communication open with your contractor as work progresses through the space.
At the Final Walkthrough
- Walk through the finished bathroom (or full project scope) and compare it against what was agreed to during the design consultation.
- Raise any concerns during the walkthrough itself, since this is the formal close of the design-consultation-to-walkthrough process.
- If you're planning a future project, master bathroom, guest bathroom, tub-to-shower conversion, ADA-accessible bathroom, kitchen, or whole-house remodel, this is a good time to ask what that process would look like.
